Fifty years ago, HoneyBaked Ham began with one store in Detroit, Michigan. Our founder, Harry J. Hoenselaar, selected the finest quality bone-in hams, which he’d smoke for hours over a unique blend of hardwood chips to add extra flavor and tenderness. The final touch was Harry’s sweet glaze and, of course, the way he’d slice it in a single, continuous spiral.
Today, HoneyBaked Ham has grown into a premium brand with nearly 400 stores, but we still prepare each ham the same way Harry did years ago. In 1998, the company decided to grow the brand through franchising with the purchase of Hickory Ham, a Southeastern-based franchise concept. We also bought our largest competitor, Heavenly Ham, in 2002 and have 100 locations franchised under that brand.
